Ingredients
  

  • 4 large potatoes peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs optional
  • Fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix sour cream, milk, and cream of mushroom soup until smooth.
  • Add the sliced potatoes and chopped onions to the mixture, stirring well to coat.
  • Layer half of the potato mixture in a greased baking dish.
  • Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the first layer.
  • Add the remaining potato mixture on top.
  • Pour the melted butter evenly over the casserole.
  • Top with the remaining cheese and breadcrumbs, if using.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
