Ingredients
  

  • 4 large onions thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 baguette sliced
  • 2 cups Gruyère cheese shredded

Instructions
 

  • Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add thinly sliced onions and sauté for about 10 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • Sprinkle sugar over the onions to enhance caramelization.
  • Continue cooking the onions for another 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Transfer the caramelized onions to the crockpot.
  • Add beef broth, white wine, thyme, salt, and pepper to the crockpot.
  • Stir to combine all ingredients well.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  • Prepare baguette slices by toasting them during the last 30 minutes.
  • Ladle the soup into bowls, top with toasted baguette slices, and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
